About the 2040 Comprehensive Plan
The City of Minot is leading an effort to update its Comprehensive Plan. The 2040 Comprehensive Plan will establish a vision, goals, and strategies to guide growth and development in and around Minot over the next two decades. Project partners include the Minot Parks District, Minot Public School District 1, the Minot Area Chamber Economic development Corporation (EDC), the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), and neighboring jurisdictions.
Planning and development in the City of Minot is currently guided by the 2012 Comprehensive Plan, which was developed on the heels of the 2011 flood and in the midst of the Bakken oil boom. The transformative impact of these events was not fully reflected in the plan. Following a period of flood recovery and economic stabilization, the City is much more settled demographically and economically than it was 10 years ago. The 2040 Comprehensive Plan update provides an opportunity to reassess community needs and opportunities and shape the future of Minot. It will address a wide range of topics, including:
- Land use planning and growth management
- Transportation infrastructure
- Parks and recreation
- Community housing needs
- Neighborhood revitalization
- Development aesthetics and design
- Economic and environmental resilience
Plan development is guided by a public involvement process, in which area residents, business owners, and other stakeholders have an opportunity to share their perspectives and stay involved. Stay connected to the Plan update process by joining our electronic mailing list below. Periodic updates will be provided through this website, with email notifications for those who sign up.
The Plan is intended to be completed in early 2023.
